Abstract: It was first found that the alkylation of tris(4-N,N-dimethylaminophenyl)stibine with methyliodide leads to the formation of tris(4-N,N-dimethylaminophenyl)methylstibonium iodide which decomposes in hot water to tris(4-N,N-dimethylaminophenyl)stibine. The reaction of [(4-N,N-Me2C6H4)3MeSb]I with HgI2 in DMSO yields [(4-N,N-(Me)2C6H4)3MeSb]2[Hg2I6]·2DMSO, in which a significant distortion of the tetrahedral cation coordination is caused by the additional interaction of the oxygen atom of the DMSO molecule with the antimony atom.
