N-phenyl-substituted β-anilinovinyl-phenyl-thioketones (1, 2) are investigated for restricted rotations about partial double bonds and preferential conformers by 1H- and 13C-n.m.r. spectroscopy.Substituent dependent 13C-chemical shift variations and the strength control of the intramolecular hydrogen bridge are discussed.
