The invention relates to an electrolyte additive, an electrolyte containing the additive and a lithium battery using the electrolyte. The electrolyte additive contains a sulfonate compound having a sulfonamide structure as shown in formula (1), in which R1 and R2 are each independently H, substituted or unsubstituted C1-C7 hydrocarbyl; R3 is a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C6 alkylene group; and R4 and R5 are each independently a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C6 alkyl group. The lithium battery additive disclosed by the invention contains the sulfonate compound with the sulfonamide structure, is relatively high in chemical stability and can be stored for a long time at room temperature; the lithium battery additive is relatively easy to decompose in the charge-discharge cycle process of non-aqueous electrolyte secondary energy storage equipment and forms an SEI membrane on the surface of a pole piece; and decomposition products contain a large amount of heteroatoms such as sulfur, nitrogen and oxygen, and lithium ions can pass through the SEI membrane more easily, so that the cycle performance of the lithium ion battery is improved.
