Novel multitopic diphos-type ligands

Seven novel imidazole and thiazole derivatives of diphos-type ligands are presented. They are of the general structure R2P(CH2) 2PR2, where R is imidazol-2-yl (1), 1-methylimidazol-2-yl (2), 1-methylbenzimidazol-2-yl (3), 1-methylimidazol-5-yl (4), 2-isopropylimidazol-4(5)-yl (5), thiazol-2-yl (6), benzothiazol-2-yl (7), thiazol-4-yl (8) or thiazol-5-yl (9). Syntheses involved direct metallation or halogen-metal exchange reactions. Their solubility, especially in aqueous solution, is strongly dependent on the nature of the substituents as is their partition coefficient log D. The crystal structures of compounds 2, 3, 7a and 9 as well as the structure of the rhodium complex [(2)2Rh 2Cl2]Cl2 (10) have been determined.

A new method for the synthesis of dichlorophosphines

A new method for the synthesis of alkyldichlorophosphines by chlorination of alkylphosphines with phosphorus pentachloride under mild conditions is described.

SYNTHESIS, CRYSTAL STRUCTURES AND SOME REACTIONS OF ZEROVALENT TRIS DERIVATIVES OF CHROMIUM, MOLYBDENUM, TUNGSTEN, VANADIUM, NIOBIUM AND TANTALUM

Co-condensation of the vapours of the metals M = Cr, Mo, W, V, Nb, Ta with an excess of bis-1,2-(dimethylphosphino)ethane (dmpe) gives the neutral, zerovalent compounds M(dmpe)3.X-ray structure analysis shows that the crystals are isomorphous (cubic, space group Im3m, a 10.922(3), 11.058(5), 11.040(5), 11.041(3), 11.194(4) and 11.164(3) Angstroem respectively) and contain isolated molecules which have an essentially octahedral distribution of the six phosphorus atoms about the metal centre.The compound Cr(dmpe)3 reacts with methyl iodide giving trans-CrI2(dmpe)2.Mo(dmpe)3 reacts with hydrochloric acid forming the dihydrido derivative isolated as the hexafluorophosphate salt 2.Mo(dmpe)3 also reacts with iodine or methyl iodide forming the paramagnetic cation + which was isolated as the hexafluorophosphate salt.

Polymer-supported phosphorus ligands for catalysis

Novel phosphine and phosphine oxide ligands are prepared using polymeric supports. These compounds can be easily cleaved from the support, and along with the corresponding supported compounds, used as ligands in the preparation of novel, metal-complexed catalysts. The ligands are obtained by combinatorial synthesis. A process for preparing coumarin by contacting salicylaldehyde with an acrylate is also provided.

Process for preparing alkane bis-dihalophosphines

Alkane bis-dihalophosphines are prepared by reacting an olefin with a trivalent phosphorus compound having three halogens attached thereto, such as phosphorus trichloride, in the presence of elemental phosphorus under at least autogenous pressure at a temperature of from 150°C. to 350°C. The compounds obtained are useful as intermediates in preparing organophosphorus compounds which can be used as insecticides, fungicides, pharmaceuticals, flame retardant compounds, and in forming metal complexes which are catalyst activators.
