4-Cyano-5,6-diphenyl-3(2H)-pyridazinone (I) reacts with phenylmagnesium bromide to give 4-benzoyl-4,5,6-triphenyl-4,5-dihydro-3(2H)-pyridazinone (II) and 4,5,6-triphenyl-3(2H)-pyridazinone (III).Reaction of 6-p-tolyl-3(2H)-pyridazinone (IV) with phenylmagnesium bromide in THF-ether gives 5-phenyl-6-p-tolyl-4,5-dihydro-3(2H)-pyridazinone (V) and with arylmagnesium bromides in benzene affords 4-aryl-6-tolyl-3(2H)-pyridazinones (IVb-d). 6-p-Tolyl-3(2H)-pyridazinethione (VIa) reacts with arylmagnesium bromides in benzene or THF-ether to give 4-aryl-6-p-tolyl-3(2H)-pyridazinethiones (VIb,c).
