Uses
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
1-Cyclopentene-1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride is used as a valuable Diels-Alder dienophile for the synthesis of complex molecular structures, such as the bicycloundecane system in taxanes. Taxanes are a class of antineoplastic agents that are widely used in the treatment of various types of cancer, including breast, ovarian, and lung cancer. The anhydride's reactivity in Diels-Alder reactions allows for the efficient construction of these complex molecular frameworks, contributing to the development of novel and effective cancer therapies.
Used in Chemical Synthesis:
1-Cyclopentene-1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride is also used as a versatile building block in the synthesis of various organic compounds. Its unique structure and reactivity make it a valuable component in the development of new materials, pharmaceuticals, and other specialty chemicals. The anhydride group can be further functionalized or modified to introduce a wide range of functional groups, enabling the creation of diverse chemical entities with potential applications in various industries.
Purification Methods
If IR has OH peaks, then some hydrolysis to the diacid (m 178o) must have occurred. In this case reflux it with an appropriate volume of Ac2O for 30minutes, evaporate the Ac2O and distil it in vacuo. The distillate solidifies and can be recrystallised from EtOAc/hexane (1:1). The diacid distils without decomposition due to formation of the anhydride. The dimethyl ester has m 120-125o/11mm. Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 3205-94-5 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 3,2,0 and 5 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 9 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 3205-94:
(6*3)+(5*2)+(4*0)+(3*5)+(2*9)+(1*4)=65
65 % 10 = 5
So 3205-94-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Fused cyclobutenes, prepared by the photocycloaddition of propargyl alcohols to cyclic anhydride chromophores, undergo facile thermochemical ring opening to fused γ-lactones. The size of the fused ring profoundly influences the temperature that is required to facilitate the ring opening (from 50°C to 180°C) and the nature of the product that is formed. Our studies provide new insights into the mechanistic course of these reactions and have been extended to facilitate the preparation of lactams fused to medium-sized rings.
