Chenodeoxycholic acid is used in the treatment of certain liver and gallbladder disorders, as well as in the dissolution of cholesterol gallstones. It is also found in some over-the-counter medications for the relief of gallbladder pain and in the treatment of primary biliary cirrhosis.
