Azolium-linked cyclophanes: A comprehensive examination of conformations by 1H NMR spectroscopy and structural studies
Baker, Murray V.,Bosnich, Mark J.,Brown, David H.,Byrne, Lindsay T.,Hesler, Valerie J.,Skelton, Brian W.,White, Allan H.,Williams, Charlotte C.
, p. 7640 - 7652 (2004)
The synthesis and characterization of a series of azolium-linked cyclophanes are reported. The cyclophanes consist of two azolium groups (17 examples) or three imidazolium groups (1 example) linked to two benzenoid units (benzene, naphthalene, p-xylene, m
Assembly of a twin-cage complex containing a linear array of Pd3
Liu,Su,Qian,Liu,Tan,Kang
, p. 1167 - 1168 (2001)
The M3L4 twin-cage complex [Pd3(bitmb)4Cl4]Cl2· 2H2O·CH3CN [bitmb = 1,3-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene] was obtained by assembly of three Pd(II) ions with four molecules of the new flexible ditoptic ligand bitmb; structural analysis showed that the complex contains two M2L2 cages with a cavity size of ca. 200 A3.
Inclusion of a dithiadiazolyl radical in a seemingly non-porous solid
Nikolayenko, Varvara I,Barbour, Leonard J,Arauzo, Ana,Campo, Javier,Rawson, Jeremy M,Haynes, Delia A.
, p. 11310 - 11313 (2017)
Inclusion of the dithiadiazolyl radical PhCNSSN into the dynamically porous metallocycle [Cu2(L1)2Cl4], where L1 is the bidentate ligand 1,3-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene, has been achieved by gas phase diffusion. Single crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, UV-visible spectroscopy, EPR and SQUID magnetometry studies confirm inclusion of the radical into this seemingly non-porous material, and illustrate the antiferromagnetic coupling between the paramagnetic host and guest species. The radical guest is readily released by heating or by the addition of solvent (CH2Cl2).
Coordination driven self-assembly of four new molecular boats using a flexible imidazole-containing donor linker
Mukherjee, Partha Sarathi,Ghosh, Sushobhan,Chakrabarty, Rajesh
, p. 1850 - 1856 (2008)
Using a metal-ligand coordination bonding approach, the self-assembly of four new metallamacrocycles from Pd(ii)-based 90° acceptors and a diimidazole donor ligand 1,3-bis(imidazole-1-ylmethyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene (L) has been achieved. The assemblies are characterized fully by NMR and electrospray ionization-mass spectroscopic (ESI-MS) analysis and in two cases the X-ray single-crystal structure analysis established the gross structures. The selective formation of a diimidazole-based linker (L) containing macrocycle [(en)Pd(μ-L)2Pd(en)]4+ from a 1:1:1 mixture of cis-Pd(en)(NO3)2, L and 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane is also established. Measuring the binding constants established the stronger Pd-L binding force compared to traditional Pd-N(pyridyl linker) interaction, which reveals the possibility of using imidazole donor ligands as potential linkers or even better ligands compared to the widely used pyridyl donor ligands in the construction of metal-based large supramolecular assemblies. Ag(I)-N-heterocyclic carbene complexes of N-allyl substituted imidazol-2-ylidenes with ortho-, meta- and para-xylyl spacers: Synthesis, crystal structures and in vitro anticancer studies
Haque, Rosenani A.,Ghdhayeb, Mohammed Z.,Salman, Abbas Washeel,Budagumpi, Srinivasa,Khadeer Ahamed, Mohamed B.,Abdul Majid, Amin M.S.
, p. 113 - 119 (2012)
A series of N-allyl substituted xylyl-linked imidazolium salts (7-10) and their respective Ag(I)-N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes (11-14) have been synthesized and characterized by a number of spectral and analytical techniques. Molecular structure of complexes 13 and 14 were established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction method. The in vitro anticancer activity of all imidazolium salts and their Ag(I)-carbene complexes were investigated using human colorectal (HCT 116) cancer cell lines. Imidazolium salts displayed no activity for HCT 116 cell lines, except for 9; yielding IC50 value of 15.9 μM. Ag(I)-carbene complexes 12-14 showed exceptionally good activity (0.9-1.3 μM) against tested cancer cell lines. Furthermore, complex 11 displayed relatively good anticancer activity with IC50 value of 5.2 μM, which is almost equal to standard used.
Threading the needle: Guest transport in a versatile 0D porous molecular crystal
Nikolayenko, Varvara I,Heyns, Anneli,Barbour, Leonard J.
supporting information, p. 11306 - 11309 (2017/10/19)
Porous host crystals of the metallocycle [Cu2(1,3-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene)2Cl4]·2CH3OH are permeable to a series of small organic guests despite their lack of permanent channels. It is inferred from single crystal X-ray diffraction that transport of the guest molecules is facilitated by flapping of the imidazolyl rings.
