Hippuric acid dimers bridged by a C=C double bond react with the chloro-bridged complexes (Cp*)(C1)M(μ-C1)2M(Cp*)-(Cl) with decarboxylation or loss of a benzoyl group to give the unexpected ligand-bridged dinuclear complexes 2 and 4, which were characterized by X-ray diffraction. In the iridium complex 2 an oxazolone derivative forms a C,O-N,N′-coordinated bridge, whereas in the rhodium complex 4 a chlorine atom and an amide group bridge the two metal atoms.
