1,1-bis-(N-2-oxopyrrolidinyl)ethane, also known as N,N'-bis(2-oxopyrrolidin-1-yl)ethane or simply bis-pyrrolidone, is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C8H14N2O2. It is a colorless, crystalline solid that is soluble in water and various organic solvents. 1,1-bis-(N-2-oxopyrrolidinyl)ethane is primarily used as a crosslinking agent in the production of polyurethane foams, providing improved mechanical properties and dimensional stability to the final product. It is also employed as a curing agent for epoxy resins, enhancing their adhesion, flexibility, and chemical resistance. Due to its reactivity with isocyanates, bis-pyrrolidone is a valuable component in the formulation of various industrial materials, including adhesives, sealants, and elastomers.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 3889-51-8 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 3,8,8 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 5 and 1 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 3889-51:
(6*3)+(5*8)+(4*8)+(3*9)+(2*5)+(1*1)=128
128 % 10 = 8
So 3889-51-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

The Kinetics and Mechanism of the Acid-catalysed Hydrolysis of N-Vinylpyrrolidin-2-one

Senogles, Ernest,Thomas, Roderick A.

, p. 825 - 828 (2007/10/02)

The kinetics and mechanism of the acid-catalysed hydrolysis of N-vinylpyrrolidin-2-one (1) has been studied using n.m.r. spectroscopy and spectrophotometry. At temperatures near 0 deg C N-(1-hydroxyethyl)pyrrolidine-2-one (3) is the main product. At higher temperatures this decomposes into acetaldehyde and pyrrolidin-2-one (4) and the latter reacts with an excess of N-vinylpyrrolidine-2-one to give 1,1-bis-(N-2-oxopyrrolidinyl)ethane (5).The rate determining step of the hydrolysis reaction has been established as proton transfer to N-vinylpyrrolidin-2-one and the reaction conforms to a general acid catalysis mechanism.A Broensted exponent value of 0.68 +/- 0.03 was obtained with a series of carboxylic acids.
