A series of 5,6-substituted norbornenes and 5,6-substituted polychlorinated norbornenes was prepared by using a microwave-assisted Diels-Alder reaction. Some interesting reactions of 1,10,11,12-tetrachloro-13,3-dimethoxytricyclo2,9>trideca-5,11-diene (VII), the readily available Diels-Alder adduct of 1,5-cyclooctadiene and 1,2,3,4-tetrachloro-5,5-dimethoxy cyclopentadiene, enroute to hexaprismane (I) are described.X-ray crystal structure determination of novel pentacyclo2,6.03,13.05,9>tridecane derivatives is reported.
