The synthesis and characterization of a few new schiff base derivatives of niobium(V) are described.The reactions of the schiff bases, viz., 4-(1'-hydroxy-2'-butylamino)-3-pentane-2-one, N-(1'-hydroxy-2'-butyl)-2-hydroxyacetophenoneimine, N-(1'-hydroxy-2'-butyl)-2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldimine and N-(1'-hydroxy-2'-butyl)salicylaldimine with niobium pentaisopropoxide in the molar ratios 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 2:5 have yielded complexes of the types Nb(OPri)3(SB), Nb(OPri)(SB)2, Nb(SB)2(SBH) and Nb2(SB)5.These have been characterized by elemental analyses, molecular weight determinations, conductance measurements, IR and PMR spectral data.
