PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel cycloalkane derivative having a somatostatin receptor subtype 4 selective agonist activity useful as a therapeutic and/or preventive agent for improving symptoms of Alzheimer disease. SOLUTION: There is provided a compound represented by the formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
