Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 52117-35-8 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 5,2,1,1 and 7 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 3 and 5 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 52117-35:
(7*5)+(6*2)+(5*1)+(4*1)+(3*7)+(2*3)+(1*5)=88
88 % 10 = 8
So 52117-35-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

L-proline-catalyzed one-pot three-component reaction for the synthesis of β-alkoxy ketones

Dodda, Rajasekhar,Zhao, Cong-Gui

, p. 3238 - 3242 (2008/09/17)

β-Alkoxy ketones were prepared by a one-pot three-component reaction of aliphatic aldehydes, ketones, and alcohols catalyzed by L-proline. Steric effects on the reaction were studied with substituted ketones, aldehydes, and alcohols, and the results indicate that reactions employing methyl ketones, α-unsubstituted aliphatic aldehydes and methanol produce the β-alkoxy ketones in the best yields when L-proline is used as the catalyst. The reaction mechanism is discussed. Georg Thieme Verlag Stuttgart.

Aldol-Type Reaction by Propen-2-yl Acetate with NCS/SnCl2/ROH

Masuyama, Yoshiro,Kobayashi, Yumiko,Yanagi, Ryota,Kurusu, Yasuhiko

, p. 2039 - 2042 (2007/10/02)

The addition of N-chlorosuccinimide (NCS) to a solution of propen-2-yl acetate, aldehydes, SnCl2, and benzyl alcohol in CH2Cl2 or CH3CN caused an aldol-type reaction to produce 4-substituted 4-benzyloxybutan-2-ones in high yields.Use of methanol instead of benzyl alcohol produced not only 4-methoxybutan-2-one but also 3-buten-2-one by dehydromethoxylation.
