543-38-4 Usage
Uses
NO synthase inhibitor
Definition
ChEBI: A non-proteinogenicL-alpha-amino acid that is L-homoserine substituted at oxygen with a guanidino (carbamimidamido) group. Although structurally related to L-arginine, it is non-proteinoge
ic.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Canavanine is a naturally occurring L-amino acid that interferes with L-arginine-utilizing enzymes due to its structural similarity. It is a selective inhibitor of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). Overproduction of NO by iNOS plays a crucial role in the pathophysiology of septic shock and chronic inflammation.
Purification Methods
Crystallise S-canavanine from absolute EtOH or aqueous EtOH. Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 543-38-4 includes 6 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 3 digits, 5,4 and 3 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 3 and 8 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 543-38:
(5*5)+(4*4)+(3*3)+(2*3)+(1*8)=64
64 % 10 = 4
So 543-38-4 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
