Tandem systems allowing enhanced two-photon (2P) absorption in a wavelength range permitting coupling of the primary excitation by energy transfer to an intramolecular cage known to have fragmentation properties suited to photolysis in neuroscience is demonstrated to lead to a 10-fold improvement in the 2P photolysis cross-section at experimentally compatible wavelengths. Four two-photon absorbing fluorophores A1-A4 are reported and their spectroscopic properties are analyzed for use, in combination with palladium-porphyrinato complexes C1 and C2, as two-photon absorbing antennas and energy donors for FRET-based antenna-co
Poling and crosslinking processes in NLO polymers
Bell, William K.,Rawlings, Brandon M.,Long, Brian K.,Webb, R. Chad,Keitz, B. Keith,H?u?ling, Lukas,Willson, C. Grant
, p. 2769 - 2775 (2014/11/07)
A series of photocrosslinkable polymers bearing hyperpolarizable side chain chromophores was synthesized, poled and evaluated on the basis of the thermal stability of Second Harmonic Generation (SHG). Photoinitiation allowed for control of the onset of curing. Crosslinking was monitored by infrared spectroscopy and optimal conversion was achieved by applying a slow temperature ramp during exposure. The ultimate stability of the poled polymers was directly related to the number of crosslinking substituents that were attached to the chromophore pendant group. With two reactive groups per chromophore significant SHG was retained at temperatures above the initial polymer glass transition temperature.
One-pot catalyst-free synthesis of β-and γ-hydroxy sulfides using diaryliodonium salts and microwave irradiation

A simple and rapid one-pot protocol is described for the preparation of α- and β-hydroxy sulfides. The direct solvent-free microwave irradiation of diaryliodonium salts, potassium thiocyanate, and ethylene glycol/β-propylene glycol without any catalyst or base affords the final compounds in good yields (65-95 %) in around 10-25 min.
