The present invention relates to a polyol derivative compound having a 1,2-diol structure represented by chemical formula 1, a method of preparing the same, and an anti-microbial composition containing the compound as an active ingredient. In the chemical formula: R1 is nitrogen (N) or sulfur (S); and R2 is OH or C2 alkyl.
