Phosphorane, difluorotris(trifluoromethyl)-, also known as difluorophosphoric acid trifluoromethylide, is a highly reactive and unstable organophosphorus compound with the chemical formula (CF3)3PF2. It is a colorless, volatile, and highly toxic substance that is sensitive to moisture and air. Phosphorane, difluorotris(trifluoromethyl)- is a strong Lewis acid and a potent electrophile, making it a valuable reagent in organic synthesis, particularly in the formation of phosphorus-carbon bonds. Due to its high reactivity, it is typically generated in situ and used immediately to avoid decomposition. The compound is also known for its ability to act as a catalyst in various chemical reactions, such as the hydrophosphination of alkenes and the formation of phosphonium salts.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 661-45-0 includes 6 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 3 digits, 6,6 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 4 and 5 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 661-45:
(5*6)+(4*6)+(3*1)+(2*4)+(1*5)=70
70 % 10 = 0
So 661-45-0 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Oxidation of tris(trifluoromethyl)phosphine

Mahler, Walter

, p. 352 - 354 (2007/10/05)

Oxygen reacts with tris(trifluoromethyl)phosphine by a chain reaction involving the trifluoromethyl radical and its autoxidation. With thermal quenching, tris(trifluoromethyl) phosphate and bis(trifluoromethyl)fluorophosphine oxide are formed. Under conditions of spontaneous ignition the latter compound delivers CF2, a powerful reducing agent.
