Cadmium(II) diisobutyldithiocarbamate Cd[S2CN(i-C4H9)2]2 reacts with 1,10-phenanthroline (Phen), 2,2′-bipyridine (2,2′-Bipy), or 4,4′-bipyridine (4,4′-Bipy) to produce the volatile mixed-ligand complexes CdL2B (L = (i-C4H9)2NCS-2; B = Phen, 2,2′-Bipy) or Cd2L4(4,4′-Bipy). X-ray crystallography indicates that Cd[S2CN(i-C4H9)2]2Phen has a mononuclear molecular structure with a distorted octahedral CdS4N2 coordination core formed by the bidentate chelate ligands L and Phen. All the complexes are quantitatively sublimated upon heating in vacuum (T = 50-300°C, p ~ 10-3 mm Hg) and form γ-CdS as a result of thermal decomposition in air.
