Propanal, 2-[(4-nitrophenyl)hydrazono]-, also known as 2-(4-Nitrophenyl)hydrazonopropanal or 2-(4-Nitrophenyl)hydrazonoacetaldehyde, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C9H10N4O2. It is a derivative of propanal, an aldehyde with three carbon atoms, and features a hydrazone functional group formed by the reaction of propanal with 4-nitrophenylhydrazine. This yellow crystalline solid is used as a reagent in chemical analysis and synthesis, particularly for the detection and determination of aldehydes and ketones. It is soluble in common organic solvents and has a melting point of approximately 150-152°C.
