7-METHYL-3-METHYLENE-7-OCTENAL ACETAL COMPOUND AND METHODS FOR PRODUCING ALDEHYDE COMPOUND AND ESTER COMPOUND USING THE SAME
-
Paragraph 0282; 0283, (2018/06/15)
There are provided methods of efficiently producing compounds that are, for example, sex pheromones of San Jose Scale. For example, there is provided a method for producing a 7-methyl-3-methylene-7-octenyl carboxylate compound (4), the method including the steps of: hydrolyzing a 7-methyl-3-methylene-7-octenal acetal compound (1) to obtain 7-methyl-3-methylene-7-octenal (2); reducing the 7-methyl-3-methylene-7-octenal (2) to obtain 7-methyl-3-methylene-7-octenol (3); and esterifying the 7-methyl-3-methylene-7-octenol (3) to obtain a 7-methyl-3-methylene-7-octenyl carboxylate compound (4).
SYNTHESIS OF THE PHEROMONES, (E)-3,7-DIMETHYL-2,7-OCTADIENYL PROPIONATE, (E)-3,7-DIMETHYL-2-OCTENE-1,8-DIOL AND FRONTALIN FROM A COMMON INTERMEDIATE

Ketal ester 9 has been prepared in five steps from methyl levulinate 4 (scheme 1).The propionate 1, diol 2 and (+/-) frontalin 3 were prepared from ester 9 employing the routes shown in scheme 2,3 and 4 respectively. The branched chain alkenes 13 and 20 were prepared conveniently from the primary alcohols 11 and 10 following the procedure of S.Wolff.Triethyl phosphonopropionate 7 has been prepared by methylating triethylphosphonoacetate with methyl iodide in the presence of sodium hydride.

(Z)-3,7-Dimethyl-2,7-octadien-1-yl propanoate (1), a component of the San Jose scale (Quadraspidiotus perniciosus, Comstock) pheromone, was prepared by the multistage isomerisation of the C6 carbon-carbon double bond of the readily available compound, nerol (3).The synthesis was carried out via the epoxide by subsequent LiAlH4 ring cleavage and Hofmann-like mesylate elimination.
