A novel Mitsunobu-based technique has been developed for the synthesis of a variety of symmetrical and unsymmetrical S,Sdialkyl dithiocarbonates from various corresponding primary, secondary and tertiary thiols using gaseous carbon dioxide, in good to excellent yields.
