General Description

2-amino-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)acetamide, also known as memantine, is a medication used to treat moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. It works by blocking the action of a neurotransmitter in the brain called glutamate, which is believed to be involved in the development and progression of Alzheimer's disease. Memantine is also used to treat dementia associated with Parkinson's disease and to reduce some of the symptoms of dementia, such as confusion and agitation. It is generally well-tolerated, with common side effects including dizziness, headache, and constipation. It is available in both oral and injectable formulations and is typically prescribed as part of a comprehensive treatment plan for Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.
