Synthesis of the dibromides (IIa-d) of 2-arylidene-3-phenyl-4(3H)-quinazolinones (Ia-d) is described.The reactivity and the effect of substituents on the benzylic halogen atom β- to the -C=N- group of II towards SN1 displacement reaction together with observed E1 elimination reaction are discussed.
