colorless or slightly yellowish liquid; stable only in very dilute aqueous solutions; oxidizing agent; used in dyes [HAW93]

Physical properties

Unstable compound; stable only in dilute aqueous solutions; solution turns yellow on standing; decomposes when heated to 100°C.

Preparation

Bromic acid is prepared by adding sulfuric acid to barium bromate.Ba(BrO3)2 + H2SO4 → 2HBrO3 + BaSO4The product is distilled and absorbed in water. A 50% solution may be obtained by slow evaporation of the dilute solution in vacuum at -12°C.

Hazard

Contact with skin and eyes can cause severe irritation.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 7789-31-3 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 7,7,8 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 3 and 1 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 7789-31:
(6*7)+(5*7)+(4*8)+(3*9)+(2*3)+(1*1)=143
143 % 10 = 3
So 7789-31-3 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
