We report the first metal-free selenolations of pyridinium salts with diselenides to prepare unsymmetrical organoselenides catalysed by visible light. This protocol is an efficient and green method for the preparation of unsymmetrical organoselenides because metal-free conditions and readily accessible diselenides are used.

(Chemical Equation Presented) Potassium organoselanyltrifluoroborates have been prepared from the corresponding dihalobenzene compounds in 56-92% yields through a facile one-pot, multicomponent reaction. The microwave-promoted Suzuki-Miyaura cross-couplin

The IR, UV, and PMR spectra of a series of Se-aryl-Se-benzyl-N-phenylsulfonylselenimides were studied, and their pKa values were measured. These compounds are bipolar with a significant positive charge on the selenium atom. They have basicity close to the basicity of the anils of aromatic aldehydes, and the selenium pyramid has a high inversion barrier.
