Three series of the title compounds, imidazothiazolyl-, imidazobenzothiazolyl- and imidazobenzothiazolylaryl-acetic acids (II,III and IV) have been synthesised for evaluation as potential anti-inflammatory agents.Compounds II have been synthesised by condensing ethyl (2-amino-4-aryl-5-thiazolyl)acetate (VI) with phenacyl bromides followed by hydrolysis of the resultant esters (VII).III are obtained by the condensatiion of ethyl 2-aminobenzothiazole-6-acetate with phenacyl bromides followed by hydrolysis of the resultant esters (IX).Compound IV result from the treatment of 2-aminobenzothiazoles with ethyl 4(ω-bromoacetylphenyl)acetate (XI) followed by hydrolysis of the esters (XII).Some of the title compounds show good antiinflammatory activity.
