We synthesized 2,3-diphenyl-10H-imidazo-1,2,4-triazinoindole and some structurally related triazinoindole derivatives that contain a condensed imidazole, thiazole, or triazole ring, and studied their electronic spectra and pigment properties. 2,3-Diphenyl-10H-imidazo-1,2,4-triazinoindole has the best pigment properties.Compounds with a wide gamut of colors can be obtained by varying its structure, including some that exhibit the properties of acid-base indicators.
