The cluster complex (thioketene)Fe2(CO)6 (IIa) reacts with CO to give (thioketene)Fe2(CO)7 (IIIa).Equally phosphanes (PR3) and phosphoranes (CH2PPh3) cleave the cluster II to form complexes of the type (thioketene)Fe2(CO)6PR3 (IV) and (thioketene)Fe2(CO)6(CH2PPh3) (VIII).The chelate phosphanes dppm and dppe react with II to give the opened and closed clusters (thioketene)Fe2(CO)5(μ-dppm) (X), (thioketene)Fe2(CO)4(μ-dppe) (XI), (thioketene)Fe2(CO)5(dppe) (XIII), (thioketene)Fe2(CO)4(μ-dppe) (XV) and (thioketene)Fe2(CO)5(μ-dppe) (XVI), according to the reaction conditions. The structures of four of the complexes (IVa, VIIIa, X, and XIIIb) have been determined by X-ray diffraction.
