Condensation of methyl acetoacetate with 4'-methoxychalkone (1) gives 6-carbomethoxy-3-(p-methoxyphenyl)-5-phenylcyclohex-2-en-1-one (2) which on reaction with hydrazine hydrate and phenylhydrazine yields 3-oxo-4,6-diphenyl-3,3a,4,5-tetrahydrobenzopyrazoles (3 and 4).Treatment of 2 with aq.H2SO4-AcOH results in decarboxylation to yield the corresponding cyclohexenone (6) which on KBH4 reduction gives cyclohexen-1-ol (7).Acetylation of 3 and 7 gives the respective acetates (5 and 7).Demethylation of 6 affords the corresponding 3-(p-hydroxyphenyl) derivative (9) which on treatment with 1-(β-chloroethyl)pyrrolidine furnishes the desired compound, 3--5-phenylcyclohex-2-en-1-one (10).None of the compounds prevents pregnancy in female albino rats at 10 mg/kg dose.
