Benzopyranones were successfully synthesized using Cu(I)-mediated C-O bond formation in subcritical water. A number of benzopyranone derivatives including polymethoxy benzopyranones, benzopyranopyridones, chromenoindolones, and furochromenones were synthesized in satisfactory yield.
