A series of cis-arylmethyl(1,2-bis(dimethylphosphino)ethane)nickel(II) complexes, cis-Ni(C6H4X)-(Me)(dmpe) (X = p-OMe, p-Me, H, p-F, o-Me), has been prepared by the ligand exchange reaction of trans-Ni-(C6H4X)(Me)(PEt3)2 with a stoichiometric amount of dmpe at low temperature. Addition of phosphorus ligands such as PEt3, P(aryl)3, dmpe, P(OEt)3, and PCy3 to the complexes induces facile reductive elimination of MeC6H4X.
