Coupling reactions between glycopyranosyl fluorides and 2-(diethylaluminio)furan and 2-(diethylaluminio)-1-methylpyrrole giving the corresponding sugar heterocycles are observed to proceed with retention of configuration at the anomeric center.Couplings of the same aluminated heterocycles with ribofuranosyl fluorides gave predominantly the β-ribofuranosyl heterocycle.
