Synthesis of 6-Arylpyridopyrimidobenzimidazoles

6-Arylpyridopyrimidobenzimidazoles (IV) have been prepared be the oxidation of 6-aryl-5,6-dihydropyridopyrimidobenzimidazoles (II) with KMnO4.The intermediate dihydrocompounds (II) have been synthesized by the condensation of 2-(2-amino-3-pyridyl)benzimidazole (I) with benzaldehydes in the presence of gl. acetic acid.The structural assignments of the products are based on elemental analysis and spectral (IR, mass and PMR) data.
