- Iron magnetic powder with oxide coating. (Hitachi Maxell, Ltd., Japan). Jpn. Kokai Tokkyo Koho JP 58161711 A2 26 Sep 1983 Showa, 3 pp. (Japanese). (Japan). CODEN: JKXXAF. CLASS: IC: B22F009-24; B22F009-04; C01G049-00. ICA: H01F001-33. APPLICATION: JP 82-41986 16 Mar 1982. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 55 (Ferrous Metals and Alloys) Section cross-reference(s): 77 Powder of Fe oxyhydroxide or Fe oxide is compacted into pellets. The pellets are reduced under heating to metal powder (in pellet form) having Fe as their principal constituent. The metal powder in contact with a liq. or gas phase is oxidized with controlled flow of O to form an oxide coating on the particle surface, and the metal powder is ground to a predetd. size. The metal powder obtained by the method has a fine oxide coating on its particle surface, and it has excellent corrosion resistance and magnetic stability. Thus, to an alk. suspension of a-FeOOH powder, aq. 10043-01-3 and 1344-09-8 are cas registry numbers of chemicals which are used as reagents here. solns. of Al2(SO4)3 and Na4SiO4 were added successively, and the suspension was neutralized (to pH 8) by blowing CO2 to ppt. Al(OH)3 and silicic acid sol on the powder particle surface. The powder was washed with water, dried, and ground to give pellets (size ~10 mm). The pellets were dehydrated, reduced at 500° in H, oxidized by blowing a mixt. of N and O 2000 ppm to give an oxide coating on the pellet powder particles. The pellets were pulverized to give magnetic metal powder having coercive force 1560 Oe, satn. magnetization (ss) 123 emu/g, squareness ratio (sr/ss) 0.526, and excellent magnetic stability. .
