The highest reaction rate in the prepn. of I and II from ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol, resp., with allyl chloride was attained in the presence of KOH and azeotrope-forming C6H6. The 2-allyloxyethyl cyanoacetate [53628-73-2] and 2-(2-allyloxyethoxy)ethyl cyanoacetate [108073-33-2] were prepd. by esterification of I and II, resp., with cyanoacetic acid in the presence of conc. H2SO4 as a catalyst and PhMe as azeotropic dehydration agents. .
