- Rectal administration of insulin
- Rectal administration of insulin. Ritschel, W. A.; Ritschel, G. B. (Med. Cent., Univ. Cincinnati, Cincinnati, OH 45267, USA). Methods Find. Exp. Clin. Pharmacol., 6(9), 513-29 (English) 1984. CODEN: MFEPDX. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) Section cross-reference(s): 2 Insulin [9004-10-8] absorption by rabbits from rectal suppositories (2-15 units/dose) was increased by the addn. of surfactants to the suppositories. Results of the blood sugar response to rectally, i.v., and s.c. administered insulin are presented graphically and tabularly. The surfactants tested included saponin, lecithin, G 2151 [9004-99-3], Tween 40 [9005-66-7], Tween 60 [9005-67-8], Tween 61, polyoxyethylene lauryl ether [9002-92-0], Na lauryl sulfate [151-21-3], and dioctylsulfosuccinate [2373-23-1]. Brij 30 and Brij 35, which promoted rectal insulin absorption, were highly toxic to the rabbits, and were therefore excluded from further testing. Results are also reported for insulin-contg. rectal capsules and rectal tablets contg. surfactants.
- Ionic detergent application in gel chromatography of soil humic acids
- Ionic detergent application in gel chromatography of soil humic acids. Milanovskii, E. Yu. (MGU, Moscow, USSR). Pochvovedenie, (8), 142-6 (Russian) 1984. CODEN: PVDEAZ. ISSN: 0032-180X. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 19 (Fertilizers, Soils, and Plant Nutrition) Fractionation of humic substances extd. from the A1 horizon of a volcanic tropical soil with alk. soln. of Na4P2O7 was carried out on Sephadex-type gels using as an eluent a 0.05M Tris-HCl-buffer soln., pH 9. When the pure buffer was used as the eluent, the humic substances were sepd. into 2 fractions, with mol. wt. 3150,000 (A) and ~20,000 dalton (fraction B). When these 2 fractions were again chromatographed but in the presence of Na dodecyl sulfate (SDS) [151-21-3] the fraction A was sepd. into 3 components with mol. wts. 3150,000, ~40,000, and ~10,000 and the fraction B yielded one homogeneous fraction, but with a mol. wt. by a factor of 2 lower than that of the original one. The data suggest that the ionic detergent prevents the formation of assocs. of humate fractions. When a thin G-50 gel was used, the main part of humic substances gave in the presence of SDS fractions with mol. wt. <30,000, which are prevailing components of fulvic acids. Humic acids differed from them by the presence of 2 high-mol.-wt. fractions absent from the spectrum of fulvic acids. Thus, the data obtained show that SDS is useful in studying the org. matter at the level of homogeneous mol.-wt. fractions.
