The efficiency of C incorporation into the wax esters with respect to its uptake from the C source was 41.6% for glucose [50-99-7] and 33.2% for EtOH [64-17-5]. Both are practical sources for wax ester prodn. by E. gracilis. The chain lengths of both the fatty acids and fatty alcs. after sapon. ranged C10-C17. The predominant species were the C14 alc. and acid, indicating that the most abundant wax ester is myristyl myristate [3234-85-3]. .
