The micelle counterion affects the rate of the reaction due the effect in the binding const. of the substrate to the micelle and also the different affinity of ions for the micellar surface.

Fumed SiO2, tetra-Et orthosilicate and of mixt. these compds. were applied as a silicate precursor. Obtained samples were characterized by the powder x-ray diffraction technique and adsorption measurements. Sp. surface area, pore diam., pore size distribution was detd. from nitrogen ad(de)sorption isotherms at 77 K for the silicas prepd. The products with bimodal pore distribution have not ordered structure and contain macropores and mesopores, whose sizes are typical for MCM-41 materials. Effect of surfactant and precursor nature on the geometrical features of the ordered structure of MCM-41 type and bimodal porous materials was studied. .
