At the same Ti valence state, ligands did not markedly change the ratio between the chain propagation rate and the chain transfer rate. The valence state of Ti was a major factor in influencing the ratio. A linear relation was obsd. between the catalyst activity and the Taft induction consts. of various chloroalkane solvents.

Al compd. Thus, 800 mL H and 600 mL liq. propylene were introduced into a mixt. of 6.25 mmol Me undecenoate, 6.9 mmol EtAlCl2 [563-43-9], 83 mg of a catalyst made from TiCl4 and Et2AlCl(I), and 7.8 mmol I. The mixt. was heated to 70° and kept at that temp. for 1 h to give 85.6 g copolymer [91422-05-8] having bulk d. 0.52 g/cm3, melt index 2.3, ester content 0.11 mol%, and heptane-insol. portion 98.4%. The catalyst efficiency was 1030 g/g catalyst-h.
