- Synthesis of B vitamin complex by intestinal bacteria of carp fed artificial food. Trepsiene, O.; Jankevicius, K.; Lubianskiene, V. (Inst. Zool. Parasitol., Vilnius, USSR). Liet. TSR Mokslu Akad. Darb., Ser. C, (3), 71-8 (Russian) 1977. CODEN: LMDCAO. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 18 (Animal Nutrition) Intestinal microorganisms of the carp (Cyprinus carpio) fed on artificial food could produce vitamins: biotin [58-85-5], thiamin [59-43-8], pyridoxine [65-23-6], nicotinic acid [59-67-6]. The highest amts. of these vitamins in the biomass of bacteria were: 4.76, 18.08, 17.39, and 113.55 mg/g biomass, resp.. The intestinal bacteria strains in carp did not produce meso-inositol and they showed a lesser prodn. of pantothenic acid [79-83-4] (only 18% of the investigated bacteria strains synthesized this vitamin). The intestinal bacteria strains of yearling carp (35.0 mg investigated vitamins/g biomass) were more active than those of the 2nd and the 3rd year carp (resp. 33.0, 19.1 mg/g). B vitamins were synthesized most actively by Pseudomonas fluorescens, P. denitrificans, and P. scissa.
- Body resistance to sonic effects against the background of an unbalanced nutritional pattern
- Body resistance to sonic effects against the background of an unbalanced nutritional pattern. Pokrovskii, A. A.; Korovnikov, K. A. (Inst. Pitan., Moscow, USSR). Vopr. Pitan., (5), 67-72 (Russian) 1977. CODEN: VPITAR. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 18 (Animal Nutrition) A 14-day excess of thiamin [59-43-8], riboflavin [83-88-5], pyridoxine [65-23-6], ascorbic acid [50-81-7], or vitamin B12 [68-19-9] in Wistar rats on a casein 24, starch 62, lard 5, sunflower oil 5, salts 4% ration allowed less audiogenic convulsions than a deficiency of all vitamins. Pyridoxine (4-fold excess) exerted the greatest protective effect; this effect was enhanced by addn. of excess riboflavin, esp. when accompanied by excess succinate [110-15-6] (10 mmol/kg i.p.) and (or) glutamic acid [56-86-0] (0.25% of feed). Plasma 11-hydroxycorticosteroid concn. in rats given excess pyridoxine, riboflavin, succinate, and glutamate was 43.8 mg% as compared with 25.3 mg% in controls. The results are discussed in relation to the Roberts cycle and central nervous system stimulation and inhibition.
