The calcd. activation energy of chloromethylation of I with monochlorodimethyl ether [107-30-2], in the presence of SnCl2 [7772-99-8] as catalyst, was 13.7 kcal/mole. The optimum amination conditions of chloromethylated I with various di- and polyamies were: 8 h at 80.degree. at 1:2 I-amine ratio. The ion exchange capacity of the anion exchanger was 5.10, 4.64, 5.25, 8.80 and 9.04 mg/equiv/g for ethylenediamine [107-15-3], tetramethylethylenediamine [110-18-9], polyxylylenepolyamine, poly(ethylenimine) [9002-98-6] and polyethylenepolyamine, resp.

Zinc sulfoxylate formaldehyde tends to give consistent results compared to the other 2 reducing agents for the disperse dyes used in this study.
