- Preparation of foams from a polyisocyanate compound and a plastic emulsion. (Nippon Polyurethane Industry Co., Ltd., Japan). Jpn. Kokai Tokkyo Koho JP 59189115 A2 26 Oct 1984 Showa, 5 pp. (Japanese). (Japan). CODEN: JKXXAF. CLASS: IC: C08G018-14. APPLICATION: JP 83-62282 11 Apr 1983. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Foams are prepd. by blending an aq. plastic emulsion and a polyisocyanate compd. prepd. by reaction of (1) 100 parts polyisocyanate (diphenylmethane diisocyanate or its deriv.) 100, (2) 1-20 parts poly(ethylene oxide) deriv. RO(CH2CH2O)nH or R1(OCH2CH2)mO2CCH2CO2(CH2CH2O)nR1 (R, R1 = C1-4 alkyl; n, m = 5-120), and (3) a polyether diol and/or a polyether triol contg. ethylene oxide and propylene oxide residues in molar ratio 1:0-3 and having mol. wt. 200-6000, at the mol ratio NCO/OH = 2-20. The polyisocyanate compds. show excellent dispersibility in water and react rapidly with the aq. plastic emulsions to produce uniform foams which are useful for construction. Thus, 100 parts polyphenylmethane polyisocyanate [9016-87-9] was allowed to react with 8 parts polyethylene glycol mono-Me ether [9004-74-4] (mol. wt. 700) and 100 parts block polyether (mol. wt. 2500; prepd. from H2O and 1:2 ethylene oxide-propylene oxide) to form a polyisocyanate compd. The compd. (100 parts) was mixed with 0.5 part silicone foam stabilizer and 100 parts dibutyl phthalate [84-74-2] to prep. a premix, which was blended with the same wt. of a butadiene-styrene latex (Nipol 4850A) to obtain a uniform foam.
