Impact Health Eff., Proc. Conf., Meeting Date 1975, Volume 1, 329-42. Edited by: Jolley, Robert L. Ann Arbor Sci.: Ann Arbor, Mich. (English) 1978. CODEN: 37KXA7. DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) 5-Chlorouracil (I) [1820-81-1] at concns. £1 mg/L caused no change in Daphnia magna mean survival time while 4-chlororesorcinol (II) [95-88-5] reduced the median survival time ~20% at 10-2 mg/L and greater at higher concns. and a synthetic chlorinated org. mixt. increased the median survival time at concns. £10 mg/L. A decrease in survival time occurred with mixt. concns. 310-1 mg/L. I and II caused a decrease in the specific birth rates of Daphnia while the mixt. caused an increase. The mixt. did not lower carp (Cyprinus carpio) hatching success at levels reported earlier for I and II to lower hatching success. Also, II and the mixt. caused no malformations in carp at concns. reported earlier for I to cause malformations.

Conf., Meeting Date 1975, Issue CONF-751096, 347-62. Edited by: Jolley, Robert L. NTIS: Springfield, Va. (English) 1976. CODEN: 35RCAX. DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Section cross-reference(s): 61 The toxicity of 2 chlorinated compds. [5-chlorouracil (I) [1820-81-1] and 4-chlororesorcinol [95-88-5]] and a mixt. of chlorinated organics arising from the chlorination of nature waters to zooplankton and fish was detd. The parameters used were mortality and maturation in the zooplankter and hatching success (mortality) and malformation of fry for the fish. The results indicated that there were differences in the relative toxicity depending on the response parameter used, and showed the necessity of utilizing more than 1 parameter when attemping to evaluate the potential ecol. effects of a chem. on a population. Problems assocd. with studying individual compds. and complex mixts. are discussed and a systematic approach for overcoming the identified shortcomings presented.
