Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by tetrafluoroethene at the temperature of 60 °C. This reaction will need reagent diethyl ether, iodine.

Uses of 1,2-Diiodotetrafluoroethane: it can be used to produce 1-azido-2-iodotetrafluoroethane at the temperature of 70 - 75 °C. It will need reagent NaN₃ and solvent dimethylformamide with the reaction time of 4 hours. The yield is about 66%.
