Manganese oxides and peroxides

Manganese oxides and peroxides are chemical compounds containing manganese and oxygen, each with distinct chemical properties and applications. Manganese oxides encompass a range of compounds where manganese is typically found in oxidation states +2 to +4, such as manganese(II) oxide (MnO), manganese(III) oxide (Mn2O3), and manganese(IV) oxide (MnO2). These compounds are widely used as catalysts in chemical reactions, electrodes in batteries (notably manganese dioxide, MnO2), pigments in ceramics and paints, and as scavengers of heavy metals in environmental remediation processes due to their adsorption capabilities. Manganese peroxides, such as manganese(IV) peroxide (MnO2·H2O2), are less common but also play significant roles in oxidation reactions and as reagents in organic synthesis.
