Akt inhibitors
Akt inhibitors are compounds designed to block the activity of Akt, also known as protein kinase B (PKB), a serine/threonine-specific protein kinase that plays a crucial role in various cellular processes, including cell survival, proliferation, metabolism, and apoptosis. Akt is a key component of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway, which is frequently dysregulated in cancer and other diseases. By inhibiting Akt, these compounds can disrupt downstream signaling cascades that promote cell growth and survival, thereby potentially inhibiting tumor growth and progression. Akt inhibitors are being investigated as targeted therapies for cancer treatment, particularly in tumors with mutations or dysregulation of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway.
