AhR Antagonist

An AhR antagonist, or aryl hydrocarbon receptor antagonist, is a compound that inhibits the activation or function of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR). AhR is a ligand-activated transcription factor that plays a crucial role in the regulation of genes involved in detoxification pathways and immune responses. Antagonists of AhR typically compete with AhR agonists (such as dioxins and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) for binding to the receptor, thereby preventing its activation. By blocking AhR activation, antagonists can potentially mitigate the effects of environmental pollutants and toxins that activate AhR and induce harmful gene expression patterns.
