ROCK inhibitors

ROCK inhibitors refer to a class of pharmaceutical compounds that target Rho-associated protein kinase (ROCK), specifically ROCK1 and ROCK2, which are serine/threonine kinases involved in various cellular processes such as cell contraction, motility, and adhesion. These kinases play critical roles in regulating the actin cytoskeleton and cell shape by phosphorylating downstream effectors like myosin light chain (MLC) and LIM kinase (LIMK). By inhibiting ROCK activity, ROCK inhibitors interfere with these signaling pathways, resulting in reduced actin filament assembly and cellular contractility. This inhibition can lead to relaxation of smooth muscle cells, which is beneficial in treating conditions like hypertension and glaucoma where decreased intraocular pressure is desired.
