p53 inhibitors
A p53 inhibitor refers to a substance or compound that impedes the activity or expression of the p53 protein, a crucial tumor suppressor involved in regulating cell division and preventing the growth of tumors. Normally, p53 functions to halt cell division, initiate repair mechanisms, or induce apoptosis (programmed cell death) in cells with damaged DNA or under stress conditions. In cancers, where p53 is often mutated or dysfunctional, tumor cells can evade these protective mechanisms.
